ABSTRACT
Autoimmune disorders occur when the immune system itself attacks the body's tissues and organs. Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system targets blood cells, kidneys, liver, spleen, eyes, skin, and other body organs. Normally autoimmune disorders occur several years later in life. The genes are inherited in a child and symptoms arise in early childhood. People with Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome have a normal lifespan and have a risk of developing lymphoma (cancer of immune cells). In this article we will discuss various causes and symptoms of Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome, also we will discuss how we can manage this syndrome with Ayurveda.
INTRODUCTION
Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome is characterized by abnormally enlarged lymph nodes due to which the body cannot regulate the number of immune system cells properly. It is linked to the failure of the apoptotic mechanism to maintain lymphocyte homeostasis. Defects in FAS-mediated apoptosis cause an excess accumulation of autoreactive T cells. The abnormal accumulation of these cells causes autoimmune disorders and associated dysfunction. Most cases of Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome involve genetic mutation (heterozygous mutations) in the lymphocyte surface protein FaS, which impairs the apoptotic pathway. Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome symptoms can be very similar to autoimmune hemolytic anemia, neutropenia, and other infectious diseases due to weak immunity.
AYURVEDIC ASPECT
According to Ayurveda, inherited disorders are due to the Beej dushti. Beej dushti varies according to the individual prakriti. The beej dushti can lead to Ojas kshay (weak immunity). The weak immune system cannot fight against infections penetrating the body thus, it will also lead to Rakt dushti (blood/lymph infections). These all factors together aggravate the Rakt and Pitta dosha of the body. The weak immune system cannot cope with certain body changes and undergo destruction to itself and other body organs.
