This herb is useful in vaya sthapana, dahaprashaman, trishna nighrahan, stanya shodhana, triptighana categorised by Acharya Charak and by Acharya Sushrut it is categorised under guduchyadi, patoladi, Aragwadadi, kakolyadi, vallipanchmula gana. This herb helps to pacify tridoshas, it is commonly used in vataj disorders with ghrita, in pittaja disorders with sharkara, in kaphaja disorders with madhu. It is specifically used in skin disorders or in painful disorders, cardiac disease, diabetes, fever, inflammatory conditions, for reducing burning sensation, and is very beneficial in rejuvenating. This herb is very beneficial in kapha-pitta shamak and is shothahara, vrana ropana, kushtha ghana in nature. 4. Haridra (Curcuma longa)

This herb belongs to Zingiberaceae family, its taste is rich in tikta (Bitter), katu (pungent) rasa along with ushna potency, qualities are laghu (light) and rooksha (dry). It is kapha vata shamak, pitta rechaka and due its tikta guna it is pitta shamak in properties. Its ushna guna is helpful in relieving the pain. INTRODUCTION

In the present era , we all know blood related disorders are very common, and disturbs our daily life. Asrigdara is one of them, which is positive in a greater range of population. Asrigdara includes all types of irregular abnormal uterine bleeding. This disease can be correlated in modern times with menorrhagia and metrorrhagia. Menorrhagia is excessive bleeding and metrorrhagia is bleeding between two menstrual cycles. This anomaly can affect the physical as well as the psychological health of a woman and is very difficult to handle by a working woman. This condition commonly causes anaemia or general weakness. According to Ayurveda, this Asrigdhara is basically resulted due to the vitiation or aggravation of pitta dosha along with vaigunyata of Apana Vayu. This is very effective with anupana of honey. Bolbaddha ras is a formulation which is very effective in pitta shamak, rakta sthapaka, vata anulomana in nature, or also be given for appetising and digestion processes. Normal length of Ritu Chakra is 28-32 days and any type of disturbance in this duration is said to be Asrigdara. Shuddha artava is a very important factor for healthy conceiving. Raja is said to be the upadhatu of rasa dhatu. It is agneya in nature. This is effectively prepared from the rasa dhatu or from ahara rasa, other reproductive hormones are prepared from the proteins like luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. Oestrogen and progesterone are prepared by cholesterol, these are steroidal hormones, menstrual bleeding possessed by ovarian hormones whether the blood shed from the uterus. When we take our proper diet our body fulfils our basic needs and properly nourishes our dhatus. As a result the normal hormonal level will be maintained, which is very important for the normal functioning of hormones and regular bleeding. The main role of Ahara rasa is governed by rasa dhatu so should be healthy if it is deteriorated then its direct influence will be seen on the artava dhatu.

It can also be disturbed by environmental factors, any type of stress, nervus tensions, disturbance in marital relations or with any sexual disturbances. When stress disturbs the menstrual cycle, then its reason is higher cortical effects on the hypothalamus that leads to disturbance in the uterine vasculature. This condition commonly results in menorrhagia. In our ancient literature, our Acharyas have told us that this condition is a result of disturbance in three doshas. Alterance in amount, intensity, all are due to the imbalance pitta or rakta dosha.

  2. Decoction of juice extract of Shalmali – Salmalia malabarica
  3. Bola – Commiphora myrrha
  4. Shuddha Rasendra – Purified and processed Mercury
  5. Shuddha Gandhaka – Purified and processed Sulphur

Due to the kajjali this formulation helps as rasayana, and also acts as yogavahi, shalmali kwath or its pushpa swaras increase the potency of formulation. When this preparation is administered with honey which leads to fast actions of medicine and fastens the bioavailability of preparation.

Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - It is madhur (sweet) in taste is guru (heavy) or snigadh (moist) in properties along with sheeta (cold) potency as well as its post digestive effect is madhur (sweet). This is mainly Vata-pitta shamak in doshakarma. This is highly effective in reducing the sourness of heart, throat or chest and also helps in giving the coolant effects in the stomach.
  3. Pitta Papda (Fumaria indica) - This helps in increasing the digestive fire, liver detoxifying, and balances the bile juices that help in ama pachana. This helps in alleviating the pitt and kapha conditions.
  4. Kapardika Bhasma - Mainly pacifies pitta and balances the pitt and vata dosha and is very helpful in maintaining the digestive system.
  5. Mukta Shukti - This alleviates pitta and kapha conditions, improves digestive fire, helps in digestion and is amlapitta hara.

Pathya -

  • Patients can take brown bread, brown rice, cereal, whole grains, these are rich in fibres so are good for amlapitta condition.
  • Papaya, Apple, pear, guava, Mango watermelon, muskmelon these are very useful in amlapitta condition, and are low in citric acid so don't form gas so provide relief in amlapitta.
  • Green beans, pumpkin, cabbage, broccoli, mushroom, all gourds, and cauliflower are good for alleviating the pitta dosha so it rectifies the amlapitta.
  • Green, pink, yellow lentils and soyabean are helpful in alleviating the pitta dosha.
  • Egg white can be taken.
  • Fennels (saunf), cumin (jeera), mint (pudina), Carom (ajwain), fenugreek (methi), coriander (dhaniya), these are good for Amlapitta condition.
  • Gooseberry powder can be taken daily after or before a meal to alleviate pitta dosha.

Apathya -

  • White rice must be avoided.
  • High citrus fruits, like oranges, lemon, grapefruit, cranberries, are all the sour fruits that must be avoided.
  • Garlic, green chillies, red chillies, cloves, black pepper, capsicum, taro root (Arbi) are all avoided.
  • Black gram, kidney beans, chickpeas are also avoided.
  • Avoid all the fried meat products because all of them are heavy and slow to digest or may cause heartburn and lead to stomach upset.
  • Fast foods, processed foods, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, hot or extreme cold drinks, smoking, sauces, and carbonated drinks must be avoided in our daily life to protect us from acidic conditions.

Method of preparation of Amlapitta Ghan Vati

Raw material of Patola (Trichosanthes dioica), Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Pitta Papda (Fumaria indica) should be collected in their best sangrahan kaala, and take purified forms of Kapardika bhasma, Mukta Shukti, Sajjikshar, Dugdha Pashan bhasma then grind them to make fine powder of all these herbs and minerals. Mix them with jaggery to make a fine paste of all these ingredients. Then these pills should be dried and kept in an airtight container for further use in this condition. Dosage - 2 tablets twice daily with plain water after meals.
