Punctate Inner Choroidopathy Treatment with Ayurveda

Punctate inner choroidopathy is a disease of Eye. The eye is the major organ in our body. This major organ helps in vision and also it is highly specialized for photoreception. Punctate Inner Choroidopathy

Introduction

Punctate inner choroidopathy is an inflammatory condition that affects the choroid and retina of the eyes. This can lead to vision loss. This disease most commonly occurs in young women who are myopic. This term punctate inner choroidopathy was first used by Watzke, et al. in 19841. In this condition there is an inflammation in the retina and choroid part of the eyes. This disease is the average age of patients ranging from 16-40 years for this disease. The inflammation is limited to the back of the eye, meaning the posterior aspect and there is no inflammation in the front of the eye. This is the distinctive feature of Punctate inner choroidopathy.

ETIOLOGY / CAUSES

The exact cause of PIC is not known. But researchers believe that this disease is thought to involve both genetic and environmental factors. It may also represent an autoimmune type of uveitis.

CLINICAL FEATURES / SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

The symptoms of this disease are:

  • Appearance of gray-white or whitish yellow punctate at the areas of the inner choroid
  • Blind spot
  • Blurred vision
  • Photopsia
  • Floaters
  • Photophobia
  • Distorted vision
  • Loss of peripheral vision
  • Scarring

DIAGNOSIS

The diagnosis of Punctate inner choroidopathy can be difficult because the appearance of this disease is similar to other diseases of the eyes. So the diagnosis is made by careful examination of the eye and some known tests. Those tests are:

  • Visual field testing
  • Fluorescein angiography

COMPLICATIONS

If left untreated then this disease will show the following complications:

  • Choroidal neovascularization
  • Subretinal fibrosis

This formulation is made from the herbs like Amla (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia Chebula), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica), Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Shuddha guggul (Commiphora mukul), Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), Pippali (Piper longum), Maricha (Piper nigrum), Vidanga (Embelia ribes), Nishotha (Operculina turpenthum), Dantimool (Baliospermum montanum). It removes the toxins from the blood and helps in various disorders.

Dosage: 1 tablet twice a day after meals with plan water.

3. Bilberry Capsules

This is a single herbal formulation. It is an antioxidant rich berry for healthy eyesight. It is made from the extracts of Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus). This formulation helps in near as well as farsightedness. This formulation also helps in macular degeneration, weak eyes, eye strains, etc. This is the strongest compound to fight free radicals. These free radicals are the major cause of damage to eyes. So this herbal formulation is very effective in treating eye disorders.

4. Triphala Ghrit

5. Saptamrit Loha

It is made from the herbs such as Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Loha bhasma (Iron calx). This is primarily used for eye and hair diseases. Saptamrit loha is prescribed mainly in conjunctivitis, immature cataract and vision impairment due to any underlying eye disorder. This formulation increases hemoglobin level, reduces intestinal gas, balances acid production, etc. it contains triphala which is very effective in eye disorders.

Dosage: 1 tablet twice a day after meals with plain water.

6. Curcumin Capsules

This is a single herbal formulation of Planet Ayurveda. This is the best antiseptic herb in Ayurveda. These capsules are prepared from the extracts of Curcumin (Curcuma longa).
