It is a disorder occurring from continued exposure to vibration or working with vibrating tools. It especially occurs in the hands and forearms. It was called Vibration White Finger but the name was changed to HAVS, as there may be symptoms other than white fingers.
What are the Causes of Hand-arm Vibration Syndrome?
Hand-arm vibration syndrome is caused by continued and repeated use of vibrating equipment with hands - power drills, chainsaws, needle guns, and concrete vibrators. It can also be caused by holding or working with vibration. It is unclear how the vibration causes the condition. It is probably caused by minor but repeated bruising in the blood vessels in the small veins and fingers. Over time they can gradually lose some of their function and cause symptoms.
What are the Symptoms associated with Hand-arm Vibration Syndrome?
Initially, the nerves are affected and the result is a change or loss of sensation. This is followed by Raynaud's phenomenon resulting due to changes in blood vessels and leading changes in the color of the fingers when exposed to different climates. These changes are followed by muscle ache.
1. Symptoms - When Nerve Get Affected
Numbness (loss of feeling)
Tingling (pins and needles like sensation in one or more whole fingers or may affect tips of the finger)
In severe cases, numbness and tingling become permanent or may be prolonged with the affected fingers.
Difficulty in working and clumsiness
Painful and disabling condition of the arms, fingers, and hands
There are also some conditions like there may be a difficulty for people to fix buttons or hold coins, pins, wires, etc. In many people, the severity of nerve symptoms lies somewhere between these two conditions like sometimes one finger is badly affected and others are only moderately affected.
2. Raynaud's Phenomenon
Raynaud's phenomenon occurs in exposing to cold weather or touching cold things.
Swelling and whitening of the fingers when exposed to cold and causes redness and pain when again get warmed.
3. Pains and Aches
It creates due to the damage to the joints, muscles, and bones.

Polymyositis is an uncommon inflammatory disease characterized by progressive weakness of muscles over a period of time. It is a chronic condition in which muscle weakness affects both sides of the body. The muscle weakness results from inflammation of the muscle fibers because of which the arteries and blood vessels passing through muscle are adversely affected.
Polymyositis is a disease of muscle categorized under a group of ailments called 'Inflammatory myopathies.' Besides Polymyositis, this group of diseases commonly includes ailments like Dermatomyositis, Inclusion body myositis, and Necrotizing autoimmune myopathy. All these diseases are marked by inflammation of muscles, as well as muscle weakness and muscle pain.
The muscle inflammation, and subsequent muscle weakness, which characterizes Polymyositis results from a spontaneous attack on the muscles by the immune cells of inflammation --- the white blood cells. Typically, Polymyositis affects the muscles close to the trunk or torso --- the shoulders, neck, upper back, upper arms, hips, and thighs.
If Polymyositis is left untreated, the progressive muscle weakness over time can lead to severe complications for the patients. The weakening muscles can cause frequent falls, and restrict day-to-day activities. In addition, weakened muscles can also trigger respiratory problems and cause severe disability.
Polymyositis generally affects people aged between 30 and 60 years; with women at a comparatively higher risk of the disease as compared to men.
The risk of Polymyositis is also usually high for people suffering from viral infections like HIV, and those affected by autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, Scleroderma, and Sjogren's syndrome. Furthermore, some of the other conditions associated with Polymyositis are Raynaud's phenomenon, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and interstitial lung disease.
Polymyositis: Causes
The exact cause of Polymyositis is not clearly known. Doctors believe that the disease activates an autoimmune process in which the immune system of the body invades the muscles and damages the muscle tissue. Some of the possible causes that can lead to Polymyositis are:
Genetic factors that can put a person at a potential risk of developing ‘Inflammatory myopathies’
Exposure to certain drugs, especially those prescribed for the treatment of cancer, thyroid, hepatitis, ulcers, or seizures
Viruses like the HIV virus, the HTLV-1 virus, and Coxsackie B virus.
Polymyositis: Symptoms
Some of the most common signs and symptoms of Polymyositis are:
Muscle weakness, especially in the upper arms, shoulders, abdomen, and hips
Muscle pain and stiffness
Joint pain
Stiffness in joints
Fatigue
Fever
Weight loss
Difficulty in lifting the arms over the head or extending the knees
Difficulty in carrying/lifting things, going up and down the stairs, or rising from a chair
Breathlessness
Problems with eating and swallowing food
Irregular heart rhythms (if inflammation affects the heart muscle)
Breathing or respiratory problems (if inflammation affects the lung tissues themselves).
Polymyositis: Treatment
According to Modern Medical System:
Polymyositis can be managed through various treatment methods, depending on the age and general health of the patients and the severity of the disease. The different treatments for Polymyositis include anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive medicines, physical exercises, heat therapy, rest, and the use of special devices like braces for supporting muscles and facilitating movement.
According to Ayurveda:
The symptoms of Polymyositis can also be effectively managed with the help of Ayurvedic medications. The treatment of Polymyositis, in accordance with Ayurvedic guidelines, works at two levels: (1) controlling the progress of the disease, and (2) managing the symptoms of fatigue, weakness, and pain.

Scleroderma is commonly known as a skin disorder, which usually involves hardening as well as tightening of skin and connective tissues. Basically it is a rare autoimmune ailment of unknown etiology, which is often characterized by fibrosis of skin with the involvement of internal organs. Normally, the immune system provides defense against multiple diseases and infection, but in people suffering from Scleroderma, the immune system triggers other cells to produce too much collagen, which further gets deposited in the skin and organs reducing its own ability. In Ayurveda, this disease is considered under the heading 'Uttana Vatarakta'. Ayurvedic treatment allows the condition based on Dosha, Dhatu and Dushya. Scleroderma is a progressive disorder and there is a myth that it is non-curable, which is completely wrong. Clinical treatment with Ayurvedic medications can slow down its rapid progression as well as improve the life span of the patient and quality of life.

Autoantibody production: Increase in the production of antinuclear antibody by 95 percent.
Environmental Factors
It involves continuous exposure of person to silica dust, organic solvents, biogenic amines, urea formaldehyde, polyvinyl chloride, silicone implant etc.

DIAGNOSIS
It is not always easy to diagnose scleroderma as it can affect other parts of the body also such as joints. In many cases Scleroderma can be initially mistaken for rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
The doctor will perform a thorough physical examination after discussing about patient family medical history. The Physician, whether he or she will be looking for any of the above mentioned symptoms, mainly thickening or hardening of the skin around the fingers and toes or discoloration of the skin or both, if suspects disorder, prescribes the proper tests to confirm the diagnosis, and to determine the severity of the disease. These tests may include:-
Blood test, which is usually performedto determine the increased level of immune factors such as antinuclear antibody. However, these tests are mainly for autoimmune disorders but in case of scleroderma patients, it is helpful in assisting with an accurate diagnosis.
Pulmonary function tests: These tests are carried out to check how well the lungs are functioning. If disease is suspected, it is important to confirm whether it has spread to the lungs or not, where it can lead to scar tissue formation. Therefore, an X-ray or CT scan may be used to check the lung damage.
Echocardiogram : Most of the physicians recommend this test once every 6 to 12 months to evaluate for complications such as pulmonary hypertension or congestive heart failure.
Kidney function: These tests are also performed through blood tests. When this disease affects the kidneys, it can lead to an increase in blood pressure as well as the leakage of protein into the urine. In its most serious stage which is also known as scleroderma renal crisis, a rapid increase in blood pressure may occur, that may cause kidney failure.

Schizoaffective is a chronic mental illness which starts with the simple mood fluctuations, but may take a severe form if not taken care of, at initial stage. According to several studies, it is regarded as a very rare health problem as only 0.3 % (approx.) of the total population is suffering from this infirmity. In most of the cases, it is incorrectly diagnosed as Schizophrenia (psychosis) or mood disorder at the primary stages. Actually it is a separate problem which consists of the combined features of the above mentioned conditions. As the name suggests schizoaffective, here, 'schizo' refers to the psychotic symptoms and 'affective' refers to the mood symptoms.
The time period of this sickness varies from person to person. The rate of schizoaffective frailty is almost same in both men and women, but men often develop it at an earlier age. The best part is this ailment can be managed effectively with the help of medications and therapies.
This article provides you all the important information including the types, causes, symptoms, herbal medications and the useful therapies, to help you get rid of this at the primary stages. On the other hand, schizophrenic, being one of its parts, comprises of hallucinations (false perceptions) and delusions (false beliefs) only. It is a psychosis that affects the thinking, actions and expressions of a person. The major difference between the both is the individual suffering from schizophrenic hears sounds and sees the things, which do not exist in reality, though person suffering with schizoaffective ailment gets totally disconnected from the reality and faces frequent fluctuations in mood, behavior and energy.
TYPES OF SCHIZOAFFECTIVE DISORDER
There are two types of schizoaffective infirmity, similar as schizophrenia. These are:
Bipolar Type: It is commonly known as mood disorder, which includes both manic ‘highs’ and depressive ‘lows’ episodes. The manic symptoms are increase in energy and activity leading to many other related symptoms, rather, reduction in energy and activity results in the depressive symptoms, as mentioned below.
Depressive Type: It is usually known as depression consisting of the major depressive episodes only.
SYMPTOMS OF SCHIZOAFFECTIVE DISORDER
There are numerous symptoms of schizoaffective illness, depending upon the type; the most common of those are mentioned here. The sufferer may feel:

CAUSES OF SCHIZOAFFECTIVE DISORDER
As it is a rare health issue and often misdiagnosed as the other, similar ones. The factors causing the schizoaffective disorder are not defined properly till the time. But, being its symptoms similar to that of the others, some of the factors causing schizoaffective disorder are considered as:
Genetic factors including father, mother or the close blood relations, suffering with Schizoaffective, schizophrenic or bipolar sickness
Improper Brain Structure and imbalanced brain circuits that control mood and thoughts
Stressful events such as unemployment, death in family, divorce, miscarriage, etc.

According to Ayurvedic scriptures, liver which is also considered as Yakrut, Yakima or Yakna, is a vital organ for Chayapachaya (metabolism) of food we consume. It is believed to have originated from Rakta Dhatu (blood vessels) (3). The main function of liver is to impart red color to Rasa Dhatu, metabolize fats, proteins and store important vitamins & nutrients. This organ is accountable for conversion of Rasa Dhatu (plasma) to Rakta Dhatu (blood) and recognizes foreign matter or toxins while preventing them from entering blood stream. Liver balances the production and secretion of bile and maintains purity of blood by preventing Ama getting mixed in blood. (4)
LIVER CONDITIONS AND DISEASES
A diseased Yakrut or liver can cause various chronic and fatal liver diseases like Hepatitis, Cirrhosis, Liver cancer (Liver hemangioma), Fascioliasis, PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), Fatty liver diseases and gilbert's syndrome.
WHAT IS LIVER HEMANGIOMA?
Liver hemangioma, which is also known as Hepatic Hemangioma or Cavernous hemangioma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor which is composed of tangled network of blood vessels. The size of the tumor is about 4cm or 1.5 inches and are mostly asymptomatic.
PREVALENCE OF LIVER HEMANGIOMA
According to the clinical and medical surveys, Hepatic hemangioma is common in females with 5:1 ratio. The rate of prevalence is 2.5% globally with 0.01% spontaneous rupture cases. This is commonly got diagnosed in people between 30 and 50 years of age.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF LIVER HEMANGIOMA?
Major Classification Of Liver Hemangioma Are As Follows
1. Typical hepatic hemangioma- Its subtypes are given below:
Giant hepatic hemangioma
Flash filling hepatic hemangioma
Calcified hepatic hemangioma
Sclerosed or Hyalinised hemangioma
2. Pedunculated hepatic hemangioma
3. Cystic hepatic hemangioma
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF LIVER HEMANGIOMA?
In maximum cases, liver hemangioma doesn't show any specific sign or symptom but noticeable signs can include-
Vomiting and nausea
Abdominal pain
Sudden loss in appetite
Constant fullness after eating small amount of food
WHAT ARE THE LEADING CAUSES OF LIVER HEMANGIOMA?
Liver is considered of five Bhutaagnis or digestive fires that correlates with five earthly elements i.e. Prithvi, Tejas, Apu, Vayu and Akasha. All these Bhutaagnis plays important role in digestion and in transforming Rasa Dhatu (Plasma) to Rakht Dhatu (blood vessels). Imbalance in any of the digestive fire results in the entry of toxins in blood. If imbalances lasts for longer time it can cause Liver hemangioma and other Chronic liver diseases. It is also believed that it's a congenital disease with no serious signs and causes.
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS INVOLVED IN LIVER HEMANGIOMA?
Pregnant women are more likely to get diagnosed with the disorder due to the increasing estrogen level that may cause growth in hemangioma.
Hormone replacement therapy for menopause could be reason for increasing size of lesions.
HOW CAN IT BE DIAGNOSED?
Clinical Diagnosis Can Be Done Through Following Techniques
Ultrasound
MRI ( Magnetic Resonance imaging)
CT (Computed Tomography) scan
Scintigraphy

It is often seen that a huge proportion of the population now a day's is suffering from many stomach disorders such as ingestion, gas, bloating and fatigue. There is no surprise in that we can see different types of herbal remedies on the market for the treatment of these disorders. These conditions usually begin when we start combining incompatible food (Viruddha Ahara). The idea of some foods digest well together while others do not is completely new.
VIEWS OF AYURVEDA ABOUT INCOMPATIBLE FOOD
The view of Ayurveda about incompatible food is quite different from the traditional view which believes that a balanced diet including meats, grains, dairy products, vegetables, and fruits is sufficient to live a healthy life. But according to Ayurveda, the careful combining of food can effectively improve the quality of a person's digestion. Moreover, combining foods of different radical energies can affect the digestive fire which in Ayurveda termed as Agni. Overwhelm Agni can lead to the creation of toxins, gas, and fermentation, etc. Ayurveda believes that each food has its own Rasa (Taste), Vipaka (a Post-Digestive Effect), and Virya (Heating or Cooling energy). Certain foods also possess Prabhava (Unexplained and undesirable effect). When 2-3 food of different Rasa, Vipaka, and Virya combined. They produce Prabhava which in turn overwhelm the Agni. Ayurveda suggests that a person should take fruits, proteins, fats, and starches separately at different times of the day. Because when they have eaten together they remain in the stomach for a minimum of 8 hours which can diminish the Agni and then this diminished Agni can cause variation in the intestinal flora. If this problem remains for a long time in the body it may cause Toxemia, Sinus and some other complex disorders. Therefore, Food combining is very important and a person should pay towards its eating habit because it is the most powerful and effective tool in Ayurveda for improving digestive health.
CAN I CHANGE MY EATING HABITS?
This is the basic question which comes in every person's mind after reading this article but the answer to this question is YES. In the beginning, a person may face difficulty in changing its eating habits but if a person adapts these changes slowly and gently then these changes can act as a valuable opportunity for healing, and improved health. However, when a person is feeling motivated then he or she just made only one change at a time. Over time, you can progress toward the ideal. It is not necessary to stop consumption of incompatible food abruptly but reducing frequency can also act beneficial.
Note: Viruddha Ahara can also cause food-food interaction which is a serious issue. Therefore, it is always better to know about them.
FOOD COMBINATIONS TO AVOID
According to Ayurveda some of the incompatible food combinations are as follows:
Milk: Milk which isa white color liquid is a primary source of nutrients for all human beings. Because it is easy to digest but sometimes it may be consumed with those foods that are completely incompatible with it. Few names of the food that are incompatible with milk are Bananas, Meat, Sour Fruits, Fish, Cherries, Kitchari, Curd, and Bread containing yeast.
Starches: Starch is a polymeric carbohydrate which is the most essential carbohydrate in human diets. Most of the times it is often seen that people consume starches with those things that are completely incompatible with it. Few foods with which starch is incompatible are Eggs, Dates, Tea or Milk, Persimmons, and Bananas.
Melons: They are basically used in most of the countries for the making of squashes. But they are also not compatible with a variety of foods such as Grains, Starch, Fried foods, and Cheese.
Nightshades: Now you guys are thinking that what are Nightshades. Basically, nightshades are the foods that we consume daily such as Potato, Eggplant, Chilies, and Tomato. But there are some foods with which nightshades are completely incompatible. They are Melons, Yogurt, Cucumber, and Milk.
Yogurt: It is a food prepared by bacterial fermentation of milk. Yogurt (Dahi) is often consumed as such or in the form of lassi which is either salted or sweetened. But Yogurt may also cause different types of food-food interactions if it consumes with Cheese, Meat, Sour Fruits, Milk,Mangos, Fish, Starch, and Hot drinks.
Mangos: Mango is the most favorite fruit among the huge proportion of the population but the king of fruits is also incompatible with certain foods such as Yogurt, Cheese, and Cucumbers.
Eggs: Eggs should not be consumed with Yogurt, Melons, Fish, Bananas, Mangos, Cheese, and Meat, etc.
Corns: They are incompatible with Dates, Raisins, and Bananas.
Lemon: Lemon is incompatible with Milk, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, and Yogurt, etc.
Honey is incompatible with Ghee.
In addition to the above-mentioned foods, a person should not eat Leftovers (More than 24 hours) and Raw foods with Cooked foods. Apart from this Beans eaten along Fruits, Cheese, Eggs, Fish, Milk, Meat, and Yogurt can also cause various types of food-food interactions.
To understand little more about how these food combinations affect our body. Few specific examples are as follows:
Milk and Bananas: It is usually seen that most of the people consume them together but both are very challenging to digest. Both have different qualities. Milk has cooling nature and bananas have heating. But this is not only the problem. Furthermore, Bananas on their breakdown becomes sour. Therefore, Agni (Digestive fire) needs to digest both milk as well as the sour substance at the same time. This may affect the digestion power of Agni which in turn affects the intestinal flora. The combination of milk and banana is very heavy and it lead to the formation of Ama and blockage of channels, especially if the digestive power is weak. However, Ripe banana can be consumed with milk but during day time and only by those people who have good digestive power and fast metabolism.
Cheese and Nightshades: The combination of these two foods is so demanding for the digestive fire. Nightshades contain the alkaloids. However, the main role of the alkaloids is to provide a defense against various infections. These alkaloids are very difficult to digest and they also have the capacity to disturb the Doshas present in the human body. But when we combine these nightshades with cheese which is very rich in fats and heavy oil. Agni faces huge difficulty in digesting them.
Beans and Cheese: Both beans and cheese have heavy nature and both are very difficult to digest. A very strong digestive strength is required for their digestion. Beans are sweet and mostly astringent. They can either have a cooling or heating nature and they also have pungent effect after post digestion. On the other hand, cheese has a sour taste as well as heating nature and also poses a sour post-digestive effect. Two different types of post-digestive effect can confuse the digestive fire because combined heavy digestion leads to the accumulation of Ama (undigested form derived from food) or poor digestion.
Fruits and Complex Foods: Fruits are everyone's favorite because they are easy to digest, simply acidic, and quickly digestible. Whereas, digestion of fruits decreases when they are consumed with food that is complex in nature. The major reason behind this is that the digestion of fruits is inhibited by the complex food which can cause gas, bloating, and fermentation.
Therefore one should think twice about digestion before consuming Pizza or some other Italian dishes which include nightshades along with cheese. However, different types of fruit-flavored yogurts can also cause the problem of ingestion or gas.
Ayurveda also suggests that very cold or iced water should be avoided during or after meals because it slows the digestion as well as Agni. Ayurveda insists that a person should drink a small amount of warm water while having meals. On the other hand, a person should properly chew the food for its softening and to ensure its proper mixing with saliva. According to Ayurveda, a person should finish his or her meal with Lassi. The lassi can be prepared by blending a small amount of yogurt (Dahi) with very small amount of cumin and ginger powder along with 1-2 cups of water.
IN WHAT PROPORTION A PERSON SHOULD EAT?
Ayurveda also has an answer to this question. Ayurveda divided the stomach into parts and suggest that only one-third part of the stomach should be filled with food when eating, the one-third capacity of the stomach should be filled with liquid and the one-third portion should be left empty. This will promote mental clarity as well as the proper digestion of foods.
There is a passage in the Ayurvedic literature that describes the actions of different types of food on the body. According to that literature, water is very beneficial in improving absorption as well as digestion of food. However, Salt which is added into food to bring taste is very helpful in retaining water. Whereas, Alkali's in food regulates the digestive fire. Meat gives energy to the body and Ghee stimulates the digestion of food. The foods that are sour and pungent increases Pitta Dosha. Milk products aggravate Kapha while Vata Dosha is over-stimulated by bitter or astringent substances, dry-fruits, and beans.
WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE DAILY DIET?
After reading the above article you might be thinking about the perfect diet for a healthy lifestyle. Ayurvedic doctors suggest that a perfect daily diet for maintaining good health should include:
45-55% of well-cooked rice (basmati), corn, barley or wheat depending upon their availability.

Due to the deposition of fats in the patients suffering from NAFLD, there is an inflammation and necrosis (death of tissues of the liver). The presence of dead tissues and inflammation lead to a chronic disorder known as Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH). The word Steato means fat and Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. Patients who are suffering from NASH are at the risk of developing cirrhosis.
NAFLD AND NASH -- FACTS AND FIGURES
In India, the incidence of NAFLD is commonly seen in obese, diabetes or prediabetic people.
80% of the patients suffering from NAFLD are obese.
It affects 40-70% of the patients suffering with diabetes.
In normal children, NAFLD disease has increased up to 3-10% in the last 10 years, and increases up to 8-80% in overweight/obese children.

HOW NAFLD IS DIAGNOSED?
Following Are The Tests That Are Used For The Diagnosis Of NAFLD:
LFT: It is a blood test which measures the concentrations of various enzymes and proteins in the blood which are produced by the liver. Patients suffering from NAFLD have elevated levels of liver enzymes.
Imaging Tests: Imaging tests such as ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT) scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Biopsy: A liver biopsy is a procedure in which a small needle is inserted into the liver to collect a tissue sample. Liver biopsy is done to differentiate between NASH and fatty liver.
WHAT ARE THE DISORDERS AND COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH NASH?

HOW AYURVEDA CAN HELP IN THE TREATMENT OF LICHEN SCLEROSUS?
In Ayurveda, lichen sclerosus can be categorized under Kushtha and can be treated by the general principles mentioned in kushtha chikitsa, where the systemic treatment is given according to the dosha dominance.
According to Ayurveda, the nidaan (etiology) of lichen sclerosus is Visha (autoimmune), which usually results from the consumption of incompatible foods, exposure to certain environmental factors, stress etc. Stress also plays an important role as excessive stress vitiates the Rasa Dhatu as well as Rasavaha Srotas, which is responsible for Kapha dushti.
The auto-immune nature of the disease along with Kapha dushti causes kandu (itchy lesion). Hence, the primary dosha involved is Kapha dosha.
Meaning: In this shloka, the effects of an increase in Kapha dosha are explained. It causes weak digestion, excessive salivation, laziness, the feeling of heaviness, white discoloration, coldness, lose body parts, asthma, cold, cough, and excessive sleep.
