Sarcoma is a closed category for bone and soft tissue tumors. Chondrosarcoma is a member of this group, as this is the tumors of cartilage producing cells. It is a relatively rare cancer and around 20% of bone tumors account to this.
The incidence is common to all ages but more prevalent among 20 to 50 years of age. Male genders are prone to Chondrosarcoma than females.
Typically the disease starts in the bones of arms, leg or pelvis but it can be seen in any part of the body where there is cartilage.

CAUSES OF CHONDROSARCOMA

- Wilms’ Tumor – common type of kidney cancer in children
- Paget’s disease - A disease that disrupts the replacement of old bone tissue with new bone tissue.
- Diseases in children that required previous treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy
The chondrosarcoma can behave in different ways, either low grade, intermediate grade or high grade. It depends on their growth, rapid changes, metastasis and reaction to treatment.
