NSCLC ALK DISEASE

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) starts when the cells of the lung become abnormal and begin to grow out of control. As more cells grow, they can form into a tumour and then spreads to the other parts of the body.

There are 2 types of non-small cell lung cancer:

  • Non-Small Lung Cancer (NSCLC): About 80-85% of the lung cancers consists of this type.
  • Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC): About 10-15% cancers consist of this type.

Lung cancers typically start in the cells lining the bronchi and other parts of the lung such as the bronchioles or alveoli.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER?

The exact causes of Non-Small Lung Cancer are not known. But some risk factors for these cancers are known and how some of these cause cells to become cancerous.

  • The most common cause of NSCLC is tobacco smoking. Tobacco smoking is one of the most common causes of lung cancer. About 80% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.
  • Smoking is clearly the strongest risk factor of lung cancer. It often interacts with other factors such as smokers who are exposed to asbestos or radon are even at higher risk.
  • Genetics also plays a role as well.
  • Other causes are exposure to radon, air pollution.
  • Workplace exposures to asbestos, diesel exhaustion or certain other chemicals.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER (NSCLS)?

Most of the lung cancers do not have any symptoms until they spread to the other parts but some people having lung cancer at early stages have symptoms. Early detection can lead to the effective treatment.

The most common symptoms of lung cancer are:

  • Coughing up rust coloured sputum (spit or phlegm)
  • Coughing up blood
  • A cough that does not goes away or gets worse
  • Feeling weak or tired all the time
  • Hoarseness
  • Chest pain that is often worse with deep breathing, coughing or laughing
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Now onset of wheezing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia that re-occur again and again.

When lung cancer spreads to the distant organs it may cause the symptoms such as:

  • Pain in the back
  • Nervous problems such as weakness, numbness of an arm or leg, dizziness, balance problems or seizures when cancer spread to the brain or spinal cord.
  • Yellowing of the eyes (jaundice) when cancer spread to the liver.
  • Lumps near the surface of the body due to cancer spreading to the skin or to the lymph nodes.

TREATMENT

Modern medicine includes treatment depending upon the stage of the cancer and other factors. Treatment of NSCLC include:

  • Immunotherapy

4. Tulsi Capsules
