Vitiation of agni results in madagni which is responsible for the formation of Ama (toxins) which is responsible for various diseases. There are three vital energies present in the body which are responsible for health. According to different energies IBS is classified into different categories:

Ayurvedic Treatment for Euthyroid Sick Syndrome / Wilson's Temperature Syndrome

Euthyroid sick syndrome and Wilson Temperature syndrome are both associated with low serum levels of thyroid hormones in euthyroid patients with nonthyroidal systemic illness. There is decreased T4 to T3 conversion in both problems. Wilson’s Temperature syndrome is the cluster of debilitating symptoms brought on the physical and emotional stress due to maladaptive slowing of the metabolism.

In Euthyroid sick syndrome, the thyroid blood test comes out abnormal most of the time but there are no low thyroid symptoms whereas in Wilson’s temperature syndrome, the thyroid blood tests are typically normal even with severe low thyroid symptoms. Wilson’s Thyroid syndrome persists for years after non thyroid stress or illness has passed which is not the case with Euthyroid Sick Syndrome. In Euthyroid sick syndrome, the condition does not require treatment because there are no symptoms and the tests go back to normal when the stressful illness has passed.

Euthyroid sick syndrome is caused by increased circulating cytokines and other inflammatory mediators resulting from the underlying nonthyroidal illness. It is not a thyroid disorder.

CAUSE OF WILSON'S TEMPERATURE SYNDROME

The thyroid system is responsible for maintaining normal body temperature or normal metabolic rate. The active thyroid T3 is the one that goes into the nucleus of every cell of the body and stimulate the rate at which DNA is transcribed.  It determines how fast we live. But, when a person is in stress, the cells of the body convert less T4 into T3 causing slower metabolism and low body temperature.

T4 is shunted towards Reverse T3 which is inactive. T4 and RT3 can speed up the destruction of the enzyme that converts T4 to T3.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WILSON'S TEMPERATURE SYNDROME

The body temperature is average below 98.6 degrees.

It is more common in women then in men.

It is more common in nationalities like American Indian, Irish, Scot, Russian, Welsh etc It has a hereditary component as it is common among those whose ancestors survived a famine or who have genetic makeup that is consistent with light color skin, red hair, light colored eyes.

It is especially brought on by stresses such as childbirth, divorce, death of loved one, job or family stress, surgery, accidents, excessive dieting etc.

WTS is more common than hypothyroidism and is treated differently from hypothyroidism which is a lifelong disorder.

SYMPTOMS OF WILSON'S TEMPERATURE SYNDROME

The symptoms come and go.  At times the symptoms show up within two months of a particular stress.

Fatigue, depression, fluid retention, unintentional weight gain, dry skin, headaches, high blood pressure, ,low pain tolerance, irritability, low libido, insomnia ,anxiety , inability to concentrate and premenstrual symptoms are mostly common.

The symptoms worsen under physical, emotional and mental stress.

DIAGNOSES OF WILSON'S TEMPERATURE SYNDROME

Diagnoses is mainly based on excluding hypothyroidism.

TREATMENT OF WILSON'S TEMPERATURE SYNDROME

Treatment focuses on underlying illness, thyroid hormone replacement is not done in this case. Wilson’s thyroid syndrome makes the patient suffer indefinitely if treatment is not done, but it is completely reversible and responds very well to proper T3 therapy. Wilson’s thyroid syndrome is treated using a “ therapeutic trial method” which means the treatment is done on a patient to see how well it works as the condition is not easily identified with tests.

Planet Ayurveda offers the most effective herbal remedies for managing and treating Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome and Euthyroid sick syndrome in the form of "THYROID CARE PACK." Certain herbs are very useful in helping the body withstand stress. These herbs are called adaptogens or adatogenic herbs as they help the body adapt. These herbs include Ashwagandha, Holy Basil etc. Ayurvedic physicians also recommend the use of black walnut, Spirulina and Black cohosh to treat Euthyroid sick syndrome.

Withania or Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic remedy that regulates the function of thyroid, thereby increasing both T3 and T4 levels. The herb is known for its anti-anemic properties. It also enhances immunity.

Evans syndrome, ITP (Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) & Ayurvedic Treatment

EVANS SYNDROME: OVERVIEW

Evans syndrome is a very rare autoimmune disorder which is marked by abnormally low levels of platelets, red blood cells, and/or white blood cells in the body. The alarmingly low levels of these blood cells are a result of the production of antibodies by the immune system of the affected individual's body. These antibodies mistakenly destroy the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Individuals affected by Evans syndrome typically experience two main conditions:

  1. Thrombocytopenia (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura or ITP, for instance) which refers to low levels of platelets;
  2. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) which refers to premature destruction of red blood cells. In addition, they may also experience another condition called Neutropenia, which refers to low levels of certain white blood cells known as neutrophils.

Evans syndrome is generally defined as the association of AIHA together with ITP; with Neutropenia not occurring very often. In the affected individuals, the antibodies produced by the immune system may destroy the body's own red blood cells and platelets either simultaneously (at the same time) or sequentially (with one condition developing before the other).

The common symptoms of low levels of circulating red blood cells (anaemia) include fatigue, pale skin color, light-headedness, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dark-colored urine, and yellowing of skin (jaundice); while the symptoms of ITP or low levels of platelets commonly include appearance of small reddish/purple spots on the skin, larger purplish discoloration on the skin, purpura (a purple rash), and susceptibility to bruising even after minor injuries.

EVANS SYNDROME: TREATMENT

Timely treatment of Evans syndrome is very important because the condition can eventually lead to life-threatening complications, including sepsis, incidents of severe bleeding, and heart failure or other cardiovascular problems.

For the safe and effective management of Evans syndrome, Planet Ayurveda herbal manufacturing company offers some extremely beneficial herbal products which are prepared from 100% pure and natural herbs, under the guidance of renowned Ayurveda experts. These herbal products include:

DTPA Test, Kidney Diseases & Ayurvedic Approach

Radioisotopic renography (renal scan) involves the use of radioactive materials to examine the kidneys. The two most common radiolabelled pharmaceutical agents used are Tc99m-MAG3 (mercaptoacetyltriglycine or mertiatide) and Tc99m - DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentacetate).

In the DTPA renal scan, there is the use of radioactive material (radionulides) to examine the person’s kidneys and evaluate their function. This examination of kidney function comes under nuclear medicine in this process, there is use of radionuclides and relies on the process of radioactive decay in the diagnosis of disease. It is used in 1960’s at Nephro – Urology.

A renal scan is also known as a renal imaging, or a renogram or renal scintigraphy.

The Radioisotopic renography ie. The DTPA renal scan is performed asses the blood supply, function and excretion of urine from the kidneys. This test can also find out the  percentage of each kidney contributes to the total kidney function.

A DTPA SCAN ALSO PRESCRIBES TO EVALUATE

  • Renal tubular function and perfusion.
  • Renovascular hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries of the kidneys).
  • Renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the arteries that take blood to the kidneys).
  • Tumor or cyst.
  • Renal tubular blockage and damage.
  • Renal transplant perfusion and function.

THE PROCEDURE

The patient is given an intravenous injection of a radioactive material called radioisotopes. This radioisotope releases gamma rays. The gamma scanner detects the gamma rays. The gamma camera scans the kidney area. It tracks the radioisotope and measures how the kidneys working. The camera also works with a computer to create images. These images detail the structure and functioning of the kidneys based on how they interact with the radioisotope.

Renal scan images show both structural and functional abnormalities. This helps doctors to diagnose a kidney problem in its earlier stages.

SIDE EFFECTS OF DTPA

There are no side effects from the radioactive injection. A diuretic is given to an increased flow of urine, if required. A Person may feel thirsty and need to drink plenty of fluids.

RESULT OF DTPA TEST AND KIDNEY DISEASES

When the technician completes the renal scan, a nuclear medicine radiologist will elucidate the image and know the findings. Abnormal results of a renal scan can indicate the various kidney abnormalities such as:

Kidney Stones and Tumors

Kidney stones are the most common kidney problem. When minerals and other substances in the blood crystallize in the kidneys, forming solid stones.

Glomerulonephritis

An inflammation of the glomeruli occurs, that condition is called Glomerulonephritis. Glomeruli are very small structures inside the kidneys that filter the blood. Glomerulonephritis can be caused by infections, drugs, or congenital abnormalities.

Polycystic Kidney Disease

It is a genetic disorder that causes numerous cysts to grow in the kidneys. These cysts can interfere with kidney function and cause kidney failure. Polycystic kidney disease is a serious condition.

Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are bacterial infections of any part of the urinary system. They are easily treatable and rarely lead to more health problems.

Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney Disease is a the most common form of kidney disease. It is commonly caused by high blood pressure. Long-term condition that does not improve over time.

Renovascular Hypertension

Renovascular Hypertension is also called ‘Renal Hypertension’. It is a condition in which High blood pressure (greater than 140/80 mmHg) caused by narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the kidneys. Narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys is called ‘Renal artery stenosis.

Patient’s kidney size and shape influence the results of your DTPA scan. An abnormal kidney structure could result in an incorrect reading.

DIETARY AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES IN KIDNEY DISEASES

The Patient's diet is also important as much as taking medications. Healthy lifestyle may help to prevent many causes of kidney disease.

  • Control Diabetes by taking Insulin.
  • Cut off  high cholesterol diet.
  • Take a low salt diet.
  • Take healthy diet includes fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Intussusception - Cause, Symptoms, Diagnose & Herbal Remedies

Intussusception is a form of bowel obstruction which is a serious condition wherein one segment of the intestine telescopes or slides inside of another leading to blockage or obstruction of intestine. It blocks the food and fluid from passing through. It mainly occurs at the junction of the small and large intestines. The obstruction often causes swelling and inflammation which can lead to intestinal injury. It cuts off the blood supply to the affected part of the intestine thus leading to a tear in the bowel, infection and death of the bowel tissue.

Intussusception is one of the most common abdominal emergency conditions affecting children less than 3 years of age. It is very common in babies and more common in boys than girls. In children, an X-ray procedure is able to push back the intestine in its position. In adults, intussusception is mainly due to a tumor or polyps which often requires surgery.

Intussusception may occur in colon, small bowel or between the small bowel and colon. It occurs most frequently during the fall and winter months than rest of the year.

According to Ayurveda, obstruction means upward or backward or reverse movement of vata disorder.

CAUSE OF INTUSSUSCEPTION

The cause of intussusception is unknown. Some, viral or bacterial infection of intestine might lead to intussusception. In some children, it is caused by a condition that the child is born with such as a polyp or diverticulum. It could be due to enlarged lymph nodes or blood vessel abnormality in the intestines.

Weight loss surgery or a surgery of intestinal tract is another cause of intussusception. One may get the problem due to inflammation caused by Crohn’s disease.

Siblings of someone who has the problem are at more risk of getting it.

SYMPTOMS OF INTUSSUSCEPTION

The most common symptoms of intussusception are:

  • Severe, crampy abdominal pain lasting for 15 minutes which alters with periods without pain for 30 minutes. This is termed as clocking pain. Small children often bring their knees to the chest when they are feeling the pain. The children are seen crying due to pain due to compression of blood vessels and nerves.
  • Nausea, vomiting, fever and diarrhea. Vomiting is not due to eating. It may be bilious or yellow green colored bitter tasting vomit.
  • Rectal bleeding mixed with mucus. This is called currant jelly stool. It is a sign of lost blood supply in the bowel.
  • The patient feels weak and tired.
  • A lump in the abdomen can be felt. There is abdominal swelling
  • Flu like symptoms are experienced by the patient.
  • A weak and rapid pulse rate along with abnormal breathing, There is drop in blood pressure and the child may appear drowsy.
  • Skin may look pale or gray.
  • Anxiety and agitation.

DIAGNOSE OF INTUSSUSCEPTION

Early detection of intussusception is very important as it is a serious condition which is life threatening. Early diagnoses helps to prevent damage of the intestine.

A doctor can diagnose the problem by checking the symptoms of the patient.  A stethoscope can be used to hear the diminished bowel sounds. Abdominal lump can be felt by the doctor.

Abdominal X-rays and ultrasound are done to confirm intestinal obstruction. A barium, water soluble contrast or air enema is performed.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Epidermoid cysts - Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis & Herbal Remedies

Epidermoid cysts are slow growing and often painless and they rarely cause any problems. They are non-cancerous bumps beneath the skin but most commonly found on the face, neck and trunk.

They are mistakenly considered as sebaceous cysts but they are different as they arise from the glands that secrete oily matter that lubricates the hair and skin known as sebaceous glands.

In most of the cases, epidermoid cysts cause no long-term problems. Squeezing out the contents of the cysts on your own can lead to an infection, so it is better to leave the cyst alone.

Once a cyst is drained, there is a possibility that it will grow back. Very rarely, these cysts can become malignant.

Most epidermoid cysts don’t cause any problems but see the doctor if:

  • Cysts are growing rapidly.
  • Occurs in a spot that is constantly irritated.
  • Ruptures or becomes painful
  • Becomes infected
  • Cyst is at unusual location such as on the finger or toe.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF EPIDERMOID CYST?

  • A small, round bump on the skin usually on the face, trunk or neck.
  • A smelly yellow and thick material that drains from the cyst.
  • Redness and swelling in the affected area, if inflamed or infected.
  • A tiny blackhead in the central opening of the cyst

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF EPIDERMOID CYST?

The surface of the skin is made up of a thin, protective layer of cells that the body continuously sheds. Most of the epidermoid cysts form when these cells move deeper into the skin and multiply rather than sloughing off.

Sometimes cysts are also formed due to irritation or injury to the skin or the most superficial portion of a hair follicle.

The walls of the cyst are formed by the epidermal cells and then they secrete the protein keratin into the interior. The keratin is a thick yellow substance that sometimes drains from the cyst.

This abnormal growth of the cells may be due to a damaged hair follicle or oil gland in the skin.

These cysts often develop in response to skin trauma, HPV infection, excessive exposure to the sun or acne. These cysts are more likely to develop in people with acne or other skin conditions.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

True epidermoid cysts look like sebaceous cysts but they are different as true epidermoid cysts result from the damage caused to the hair follicles or the outer layer of the skin.

The doctor will examine the bump and surrounding skin as well as take a medical history.

Skin biopsy is performed for detailed analysis in the laboratory.

CAUSE OF EPIDERMOID CYST - ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA

The cause of epidermoid cyst according to Ayurveda: The three doshas contaminate the muscles and blood, fat, vein and blood vessels which cause an elevated swelling which is rounded and knotted (clotted). Such swelling is known as Granthi in Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic Treatment for NK/T-Cell Lymphoma in Nose

NK/T-Cell lymphoma in nose is a rare lymphoid neoplasm which in the past has been grouped with a variety of granulomatous diseases. It is almost associated with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV).

The disease can occur in patients of any age but is most common in persons between 40-50 years of age. In some cases, the problem may masquerade as a local indolent ulcer or chronic sinusitis for many years. In this condition, extensive local tissue destruction and inflammation can cause perforation of the palate or nasal septum which is spread to the nasopharynx, oral cavity and paranasal sinus. It may also cause retinal detachment. Central nervous system involvement is rare in this case.

This lymphoma remains localised in the nasal primary site in many cases with little documented nodal spread. The disease tends to metastasize to the skin, gut, testis, ovaries and muscle. Bone marrow involvement is not common.

What are the symptoms of NK/T-cell lymphoma in nose?

Extra-nodal NK/T-cell lymphoma is usually found only in the area around the nose when it is diagnosed. This means it is most often at stage 1E or stage 2E, where E stands for extra-nodal. Some people have more widespread lymphoma (stage 3 or 4) when they are diagnosed.

Symptoms are:

  • Blocked nose
  • Weepy eyes
  • Swelling on the face
  • Problem in swallowing
  • Problems in the teeth

Treatment

T-cell lymphomas are rare. So, according to modern medicine, it is difficult to determine which treatment will give the best outcome.

Modern treatment includes radiotherapy of the areas affected by lymphoma particularly if the lymphoma is localised to the area around the nose. If the lymphoma is widespread as in the stages 3 and 4, then patient is likely to have chemotherapy alone but it is common for extra-nodal NK/T-cell lymphoma to relapse after being its remission. Sometimes lymphoma doesn’t respond to the treatment.

Treatment of NK/T-cells lymphoma in nose by Planet Ayurveda

Treatment of lymphomas in Ayurveda is very in-depth and holistic in its approach as the treatment does not focus on the malignancy but on the entire system as the whole body must be returned to the harmony for the disease to be treated permanently and not recur elsewhere. The body must be purified of the toxins that cause the cells to attack the body.

The main target of Ayurvedic treatment is to control the production of kapha dosha in the body and to make immune system strong and to boost the strength of the debilitated patients.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Terminal ileitis - Causes, Symptoms & Herbal Remedies

Health is a real wealth, we should take care of it at any cost. Nowadays people suffer from a lot of health problems like digestive problems, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease etc due to change in eating habits and lifestyle. Here we will discuss about terminal ileitis which is type of Crohn’s disease. It is the inflammatory condition of intestine which may involve more than one part of intestine. There are various herbs which help to treat the terminal ileitis such as bilwa, giloy, kutaj, vasaka etc.

INTRODUCTION

Terminal ileitis is a type of Crohn’s disease. It is chronic inflammation of ileum. Ileitis is combination of two words – Ileum i.e. Latin word, meaning is intestine and the Greek word Itis meaning is inflammation. Collectively it is intestine inflammation which is a rare condition, marked by chronic inflammation of the 'ileum' --- the longest, narrowest and lowest (last/terminal) portion of the small intestine. This condition may involve more than one part of intestine including colon which is the main portion of intestine. Both men and women are equally at risk of developing this problem.

This problem is mainly caused by the Lawsonia intracellularis bacterium.

SYMPTOMS OF TERMINAL ILEITIS

Symptoms may depend upon the condition of disease and some of the common symptoms linked to the condition are:

  • Painful abdominal cramps
  • Sharp pain in the lower right part of the abdomen
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Swelling of the stomach
  • Weakness
  • Weight loss
  • Anemia
  • Fever
  • Poor appetite
  • Constipation

AYURVEDIC VIEW OF TERMINAL ILEITIS

As per Ayurveda, the digestive disorders are mainly due to vata and pitta imbalance. According to Ayurveda, ileitis occur when vata dosha pushes pitta into the colon causing inflammation. Diet and stress are also responsible for ileitis. When stimulation of Prana increases then stress is high and it develops the signs of Crohn’s disease. At initial stage the symptoms can be- digestive upsets such as gas and constipation, patient may have mild systemic dryness and feeling of weakness.
