WHAT IS PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA?
Pleomorphic Adenoma is a rare type of tumor in the salivary gland. This tumor is very common and can develop in any salivary gland- mouth, neck or throat. These glands form the saliva which further supports digestion, keeps the mouth moist and supports healthy teeth. Most of the times, tumors that form on the glands are noncancerous but the tumors on the salivary gland are malignant. It is in the form of an asymptomatic painless mass that grows gradually.
TYPES
We have many tiny salivary glands on the lips, inside cheeks, and mouth and throat. There are three main salivary glands under and behind the jaw — Parotid, Sublingual and Submandibular.
Parotid gland is the salivary gland in which most tumors occur. Nearly 25 percent of parotid tumors are cancerous.

CAUSES
- Salivary gland cancer happens when some cells in a salivary gland develop certain abnormal changes.

- The mutations allow the cells to grow and divide rapidly.
- The mutated cells continue living while other cells die.

- Collection of a sample of tissue for testing. Test of tissues through tissue biopsy.
PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA - ACCORDING TO AYURVEDIC CONCEPT
Ayurveda believes the body is controlled and governed by the three energies or the doshas. If there is any disorder and disturbance in the body the doshas -Vata, Pitta, Kapha are responsible for it. The Ayurvedic treatment includes balancing the aggravated dosha by herbs and herbs are the nature's best gift to the mankind.
According to Ayurveda, formation of a tumor is due to the imbalance in Kapha and vata dosha. Vata dosha is responsible for the inappropriate division of cells while Kapha dosha is blamed for the growth of tumor cells.
