Ayurvedic Treatment for Epididymal Cyst - Symptoms, Causes & Herbal Remedies

EPIDIDYMAL CYST: OVERVIEW

An Epididymal cyst is a small, harmless fluid-filled bulge which occurs on the testicle (testis) of a man. The cyst, which contains watery liquid, occurs in the epididymis --- the long, tightly-coiled tube above and behind the testicles.

The occurrence of Epididymal cyst is marked by a fluid-filled growth just above the testicle. The occurrence of Epididymal cyst can be unilateral and bilateral (it can occur above one or both testicles); with the likelihood of the presence of more than one cyst at a given point of time.

The Epididymal cyst is, therefore, a kind of firm testicular lump in the scrotum on top of the testicle. The cyst is quite common and does not generally require treatment. Though this cyst -- which is called Spermatocele if it contains sperm that are no longer alive -- typically resolves on its own, it can sometimes get infected and become unbearably painful. In some rare cases, the cysts may decrease the supply of the blood to the penis.

The exact cause of occurrence of the cyst is not known, although the apparent cause is the obstruction of epididymal ducts --- the tubes which carry sperms from the testicles.

Epididymal cysts are likely to occur in men at around 40 years of age; with studies having revealed that nearly 1 in 6 men are affected by the condition. These cysts rarely develop in boys before they attain teenage. Moreover, the cysts do not affect the fertility of men, and generally do not pose any potentially serious risk in terms of the development of testicular cancer.

SYMPTOMS OF EPIDIDYMAL CYST

There are no typical symptoms associated with Epididymal cysts, and most of the men are not even aware of the occurrence of these cysts since they may be painless. However, some of the indications of the cysts include:

  • The occurrence of a soft, somewhat squishy lump on the testis (at the top or bottom of your testicle)
  • Harmless and painless fluid-filled growths
  • No affect on affected man's ability to pass urine or to ejaculate.

These symptoms of Epididymal cysts are not very alarming in general. However, if the size of the cyst increases, it may cause pain and discomfort in the testicles of men affected by the condition. Sometimes, the cysts may get infected and lead to redness, inflammation and swelling, along with pain. In some cases, men may also feel a sensation of heaviness on the affected testicle, or there may be presence of a mass behind or above the testicle.

The diagnosis of Epididymal cysts is mostly confirmed after the physical examination of the sufferers by a medical professional. In certain cases, the confirmation of the diagnosis may require the medical professional to carry out investigations like Sonography or FNAC.

HERBAL REMEDIES FOR MANAGEMENT OF EPIDIDYMAL CYSTS

Epididymal cysts require treatment only when they become a cause of pain or embarrassment to the sufferers, or when they affect the blood supply to the penis. Moreover, these cysts need to be treated if they undergo an increase in size or become smaller as the fluid which fills up in these lumps gets absorbed by the body. If the cyst becomes too large in size and if it causes a lot of pain and discomfort, a surgical procedure may be needed to remove it.
