Ayurvedic Treatment for Balanoposthitis - Symptoms, Causes & Herbal Remedies

There are number of diseases which are related to reproductive system of an individual. Many people are suffering from it due to not maintaining personal hygiene. Males and females have different type of diseases related to their sex organs. Here we are discussing about balanoposthitis that is related to males.

WHAT IS BALANOPOSTHITIS?

The word balanoposthitis is made of two words "Balanitis" and "Posthitis". In which "Balanitis" means inflammation of glans penis (head of genitalia) and "Posthitis" meaning inflammation of prepuce (internal part of skin genitalia). Hence balanoposthitis is known as inflammation of tip of penis in men.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF BALANOPOSTHITIS?

  1. Bacterial infection like streptococcus, staphylococcus, enterococcus, trichomonas etc.
  2. Due to trauma
  3. Not maintaining proper hygiene
  4. May be due to soap irritation
  5. Disinfectants
  6. Most common in uncircumcised men due to moist and warm conditions.
  7. Due to specific sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, mycoplasma, ureaplasma and chlamydia.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS OF BALANOPOSTHITIS?

There are different types that show various signs and symptoms as per conditions mentioned below:

  1. Balanoposthitis simplex: In this condition changes are seen on the glans penis or skin in form of redness, swelling and secretion. Sometimes smaller or larger wounds appear. In this case there is sensation of burning, itching or nuisance while urination. It is most commonly caused due to bacterial infection, chemical and mechanical irritations.
  2. Balanoposthitis erosive cicirnata: This is a chronic condition which shows irregular whitish, polycyclic red and gray-whitish changes.
  3. Balanoposthitis candidomycetica: This condition is characterized by appearance of whitish bubbles, itching, redness and burning symptoms caused by propagation of Candida fungus. This condition often occurs in people with diabetes, weak immunity or taking any medication for long time.

Sometimes, chronic balanoposthitis increases risk of Phimosis, Paraphimosis and Cancer.

DIAGNOSIS OF BALANOPOSTHITIS

The diagnosis of Balanoposthitis are based on clinical picture. Additional tests should be performed to isolate cause of disease. Biopsy of the affected area of skin.

As per Ayurveda balanoposthitis results due to imbalance of kapha and pitta dosha in body. So to treat this disease it is very important to manage these two doshas. Herbal Remedies for Balanoposthitis

PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

1. Kaishore Guggul

This is one of the effective and best medicine for all type of skin problems. Kaishore guggul is traditionally used to balance pitta dosha in body. It helps to prevent accumulation of pitta by regulating metabolism and eliminate toxins. The ingredients like amalaki, bibhitaki, haritaki, guggul, guduchi, ginger and vidanga etc are used for preparation. These tablets reduce inflammation of glans penis.

  • Amalaki: This herb reduces inflammation of glans penis. The herb balances pitta dosha in body.
  • Bibhitaki: This herb is a rich source of vitamin C and minerals like manganese, iron, copper and potassium. It helps to reduce pain, swelling and redness.
  • Haritaki: This herb contains vitamins, minerals, manganese, potassium, iron and copper. It shows antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-bacterial properties.
  • Guduchi: This herb balances all three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) in body. It is beneficial in urine infection, burning sensation and redness related to Balanoposthitis disease.

Recommended Dosage: Two tablets twice daily with plain water after meals.

2. Manjistha Capsules

Pure extract of manjistha "Rubia cordifolia" is used for preparation of these capsules. These capsules possess anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and anti-oxidant properties. These properties deal with sign and symptoms related to balanoposthitis.

Recommended Dosage: One capsule twice daily with plain water after meals.

3. Neem Capsules

Pure extract of "Azadirachta indica" herb is used for preparation of these capsule. This herb shows antibacterial, antiviral, anti-diabetic, antifungal, antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Neem capsules act as a tonic and promotes wound healing properties. Neem cures bacteria, redness, swelling, diabetes and inflammation that is reason for Balanoposthitis.

Recommended Dosage: One capsule twice daily with plain water after meals.

4. Varunadi Vati

This formulation contains Varun, Punarnava, Gokshur and Shuddha guggul. It balances vata and pitta dosha in body. It is considered as best remedy that reduces burning sensation, itching and pain in balanoposthitis condition.

  • Varun: This herb balances vata, pitta and kapha dosha in body. Varun shows antitoxic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-microbial and diuretic properties.
  • Punarnava: The herb reduces swelling, pain and redness. It helps to balance vata and kapha doshas in body. Punarnava reduces inflammation of penis caused in Balanoposthitis disease.
  • Gokshur: The herb helps to relieve diseases of uro-genital system and acts as an aphrodisiac. It helps to balance all three dosha (vata, pitta and kapha) in body. This herb deals with signs and symptoms related to Balanoposthitis.

Recommended Dosage: Two tablets twice daily with plain water after meals.

5. Jatyadhi Oil and Nirgundi Oil

  • Jatyadhi oil: The ingredients used for preparation of Jatyadhi oil are Nimbapatra, Patolapatra, Darvi, Nisha, Sariva, Mulethi and Abhaya etc. Jatyadhi oil balances aggravated pitta dosha in body and cures affected area of penis caused by Balanoposthitis.
  • Nirgundi oil: For preparation of Nirgundi oil, ingredients used are Nirgundi, Langali and Til oil. The oil shows anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-biotic and antioxidant properties. It helps to balance vata and kapha dosha in body. This oil reduces pain inflammation and swelling in Balanoposthitis case.

Usage of Jatyadhi oil and Nirgundi Oil: Mix Jatyadhi oil and Nirgundi oil in equal amount. Apply this on affected part of penis. Massage this area, leave it for ten to fifteen minutes and wash with lukewarm water. The combination of these two can reduce pain, swelling and irritation.
