Top Ayurvedic Herbs For Allergies Treatment

The main reason for allergies is our weak immune system. In our body, immune system produces substances known as antibodies. When a person is affected with allergies, the immune system makes antibodies to it.

Allergies are defined as an overreaction of immune system to specific substances. When a common person comes in contact with allergen the immune system can inflame sinuses, airways, skin and digestive system. You can manage this condition with various herbs that are natural and safe for use.

CAUSES OF ALLERGIES

There are two main reasons for allergies. External factors include environmental pollution, dietary changes, allergen levels and infectious diseases during early childhood. Internal factors causing allergies are age, heredity, race and sex.

AYURVEDIC POINT OF VIEW ON ALLERGIES

As per Ayurveda all allergies occur due to aggravation of a specific vata, pitta or kapha dosha in the body. These three doshas give birth to allergies at different places.

Vata Dosha: In vata type of allergies the person feel problem with digestive tract. Symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, burping, gastric problem, abdominal pain, gurgling intestine and intestinal colic appears. These people can also face problems like headache, wheezing, sneezing, joint pain, spasm, sciatica and other vata-type discomforts.

Pitta Dosha: In pitta type allergies the person often feel skin-based reactions such as rashes, itching, hives, dermatitis, eczema, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, indigestion and hot flashes.

Kapha Dosha: In kapha type allergies the person may appear symptoms like cold, congestion, hay fever, irritation of the mucus membranes, sinus infection, water retention, asthma, bronchial congestion and sleeping disorders.

The allergies due to these three dosha are easily curable through some herbs. These herbs have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antihistaminic & anti-allergic properties. Top herbs that are used for the allergies are mentioned below:

  1. Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum): Tulsi is most common herb found in Indian households. From ancient time this herb is used for its medicinal properties. It is extremely beneficial in various diseases. The herb has volatile and fixed oil that fights against allergies, pathogens and infections easily. Tulsi helps in detoxification of body, treats skin allergies, itching, asthma, chronic bronchitis, redness of skin and strengthens immunity.
  2. Turmeric (Curcuma longa): Turmeric is one of the best herb for allergic reactions. This herb has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic properties that cure all types of allergies. It contains curcumin that act as a decongestant. The presence of curcumin make it a decongestant and acts as a natural leukotriene inhibitor for allergies.   3. Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra): There is presence of anti-asthmatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, expectorant and immune-modulator properties in it. Mulethi has powerful phytochemicals namely saponins, flavonoids, chalcones and xenoestrogens. All types of allergic problem can be cured with this herb.
  4. Kantkari (Solanum xanthocarpum): This herb has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-tussive and analgesic properties in it. The herb is very beneficial for the treatment of chronic rhinitis, sore throat, tonsillitis and breathlessness. It is equally beneficial for allergies that causes respiratory tract infections.
  5. Dalchini (Cinnamomum zeylanica): The essential oil cinnamonaldehyde deals with various types of allergic problem. It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-spasmodic and antioxidant properties in it. Treats sore throat, cough, sneezing, nausea, indigestion and headache associated with allergic problems. Very beneficial for redness, allergic skin reaction and skin irritation.
  6. Bharangi (Clerodandrum serratum): This Ayurvedic herb is beneficial for allergic rhinitis, fever, asthma, inflammation and other allergic reaction. The herb is anti-inflammatory, stimulant, expectorant, digestive and anti-spasmodic in nature.
  7. Shirish (Albezzia lebbock): It is consider as very effective anti-allergic herb. The herb balances kapha dosha in body that is responsible for cold, cough and chest congestion. The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties are beneficial in various allergic conditions.
  8. Vasa (Adhatoda vasica): The herb has great mucolytic, expectorant, anti-allergic & bronchodilator actions in allergic conditions.
