Ayurvedic Treatment of Paraphimosis

Paraphimosis is a urologic emergency condition which affects uncircumcised or partially circumcised males. In this condition, the foreskin of the penis remains retracted for an extended period of time, and cannot be pulled forward over the tip of the penis. To put it differently, the retracted foreskin remains stuck behind the head of the penis, and cannot be returned to its normal anatomic position.

Paraphimosis is a serious and painful condition which can lead to swelling, edema, venous occlusion, and even arterial occlusion. Since this condition leads to the constriction of the foreskin and affects the arterial flow to the glans plans, it can result in some severe infection or an injury to the tip of the penis, or even gangrene and amputation of the glans penis.

As such, whenever uncircumcised or partially circumcised males suspect that they may be affected by Paraphimosis, they should seek a urology consultation immediately, so that the condition can be evaluated and diagnosed properly. Prompt attention to Paraphimosis and timely treatment of the condition can prevent potential complications such as anxiety, stress, pain and discomfort during intercourse, and scarring or bleeding of the tissue due to forced attempts to pull the foreskin to its normal position.

CAUSES OF PARAPHIMOSIS

The most common cause behind the occurrence of Paraphimosis is that the foreskin of the affected males is not returned to its normal position by a medical practitioner after conducting a physical exam or a surgical procedure like inserting a catheter.

In addition, there are some other causes which can lead to Paraphimosis. These causes are:

  • Infections which scar the foreskin
  • Injury to the genital area
  • Forceful pulling back of the foreskin
  • Tight or less stretchy foreskin
  • Pulling back the foreskin for long duration
  • Mishandling of the foreskin
  • Poor hygiene
  • Medical conditions like Diabetes
  • Vigorous sexual activity, and
  • Other penis ailments like Phimosis.

SYMPTOMS OF PARAPHIMOSIS

Since Paraphimosis basically makes it difficult for affected males to return the foreskin to its normal position over the tip of the penis, the most common symptoms of this serious and painful condition are:

  • Foreskin gets stuck in retracted position
  • Swelling and pain in the penis tip
  • Foreskin becomes too tight
  • Penis tip becomes bluish in colour due to insufficient blood flow.

DIAGNOSIS OF PARAPHIMOSIS

For an initial diagnosis of Paraphimosis, doctors generally carry out a physical examination of the penis and foreskin of the affected males, and ask them a few questions related to the problems being experienced by them.

Thereafter, the doctors may also check the complete medical history of the affected males, and may ask them undergo blood and urine tests for a formal confirmation of Paraphimosis.

TREATMENT OF PARAPHIMOSIS

The treatment of Paraphimosis, first and foremost, involves the controlling of pain and swelling in the tip of the penis; and draining out blood or pus with the help of needles. In some severe cases, doctors may need to make a small cut in order to relieve tension. Overall, the treatment of Paraphimosis depends on the severity of the patient's condition and the age of the patients.

Ayurvedic Treatment of IPF (Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis)

ABOUT IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS (IPF)

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a condition in which the lungs get scarred progressively, with the result that the sufferer's breathing process gets affected significantly over a period of time. The gradual build-up of the scar tissue -- 'fibrosis' -- causes the sufferer's lungs to become stiff, thick and less expandable; thereby affecting their ability to inflate and take in sufficient oxygen from the air.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a lung disease which falls in the category of 'Interstitial Lung Diseases' (ILDs). There are over 200 lung diseases categorized as ILDs, with the word 'Interstitial' implying that these diseases affect the 'interstitium' --- the tissue and space which provide support to the air sacs in the lungs. As such, IPF and other ILDs do not affect the blood vessels or the airways directly.

In the case of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in particular, damage from external particles lead to the hardening of the 'alveoli' --- the small air sacs of the lungs. The occurrence of this lung disease has been diagnosed in people of almost all age-groups, though it more commonly affects people who are over 50 years of age. Moreover, men are generally at a higher risk of the disease as compared to women.

RISK FACTORS OF IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS (IPF)

Since 'Idiopathic' means 'cause not known', there is still no clear understanding of the exact causes of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. However, there are some risk factors -- other than 'male' sex and 50+ age -- which are generally linked to this lung disease. These risk factors are:

  • Hereditary factors (family history of an ILD)
  • Heartburn or Acid reflux from the stomach (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
  • Certain viruses, including the herpes virus, Epstein Barr virus, and hepatitis C
  • Environmental factors like exposure to dust from wood, stone, metal, or textiles; or from farming and cattle-breeding.
  • Cigarette smoking.

SYMPTOMS OF IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS (IPF)

There are two main indications of the possible occurrence of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. These are:

  • Dyspnea (that is, breathlessness or shortness of breath)
  • Chronic cough (dry cough which lasts for more than two months).

In addition, to these two major symptoms of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, some of the other symptoms of this disease include:

  • Fatigue
  • Joint and muscle pains
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Chest pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • ‘Clubbing’ of fingers (change in shape of fingers).

DIAGNOSIS OF IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS (IPF)

For diagnosing Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, doctors initially examine the medical and family history of the patients, along with their work history. This is done to ascertain whether the disease is caused due to genetic or environmental factors. Thereafter, some tests are carried out to confirm the diagnosis of the disease. These tests include the following:

  • Blood tests
  • Chest X-ray
  • Breathing tests
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Biopsy
  • Spirometer
  • Pulse oximetry and arterial blood gas tests.

TREATMENT OF IDIOPATHIC PULMONARY FIBROSIS (IPF)

The symptoms of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis can be effectively managed with the help of potent herbal formulations offered by Ayurvedic experts. These herbal formulations are prepared from pure and standardized extracts of herbs; and do not contain any chemicals, artificial colours, starch or preservatives. For managing the symptoms of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other ILDs, Praanrakshak Churna should be taken two times a day, after breakfast and dinner, in the following way: Boil 1 teaspoon of the churna in 400ml water till around 50ml of water remains. Allow the water to cool to room temperature; then strain and drink it. Prepare a fresh decoction of the churna and water every day.

Along with the above-mentioned herbal formulations for managing Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the patients of this lung disease should also take care of some other important things. Most importantly, they avoid cigarette smoking and tobacco, and should exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet.

If a person is chronic alcoholic, it produces toxic metabolites that cause hepatic steatosis.

2) Non-Alcoholic Steatosis:

Specifically 'granulomas' are found in the affected tissues as these are localized nodular collections of abnormal inflammatory cells. That's why this disease is termed as Granulomatosis, which refers to the presence of granulomas. It is common in all age groups including children but mostly occurs in middle-aged or older people.

Inflammation can affect various parts of the body such as respiratory tract including nostrils, windpipe, sinuses etc. It can even damage the organs as inflamed blood vessels cause the disrupted blood flow to the organs.

This disease is rare due to which sometimes it becomes difficult to determine the exact frequency of the disease. But with authentic diagnosis and treatment, this dilemma can be paralyzed to some extent.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Renovascular Hypertension

Renovascular Hypertension is also called 'Renal Hypertension'. It is a condition in which High blood pressure (greater than 130/80 mmHg) caused by narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the kidneys. Narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys is called 'Renal artery stenosis.

Renovascular hypertension (RVH) is the form of secondary hypertension. In this some people have hypertension due to sleep apnea, obesity, thyroid problem.

BASIC MECHANISM OF RENOVASCULAR HYPERTENSION

Renin Angiotensin system (RAS) or Renin–Angiotensin Aldosterone system (RAAS) is a hormone system that is involved in the regulation of the arterial blood pressure. When the renal blood flow reduced, then kidneys convert Prorenin (protein) into Renin. Renin breaks into small plasma protein known as Angiotensin II Angiotensin II stimulates the secretion of the hormone aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. If the RAAS is excessively active, blood volume increases resulting blood pressure becomes too high. There are many drugs that interrupt different steps in this system to lower blood pressure.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF RENAL HYPERTENSION?

When the arteries which carry blood to your kidneys becomes narrow, less blood flows to the kidneys. It releases hormones that tell the body to hold on to more salt and water. This causes your blood pressure to rise.

The most common cause of renal hypertension is:

  • Atherosclerosis (i.e. deposition of sticky, fatty substance called plaque on the inner lining of arteries.)
  • Fibro muscular dysplasia (i.e. this condition is caused by abnormal growth of cells in the walls of the arteries. This also leads to narrowing or blockage of these arteries.)

SYMPTOMS OF RENAL HYPERTENSION

Symptoms of severely elevated blood pressure include:

  • Headache
  • Confusion
  • Blurry or double vision
  • Bloody (pink-colored) urine
  • Nosebleed

DIAGNOSTIC TEST
