STERNAL OSTEOMYELITIS

Sternal aspergillosis is strongly associated with thoracic surgery. Route of infection is direct injection of the wound through surgery, post-operative wound care or airborne transmission. Sternal aspergillosis is commonly associated with concurrent mediastinal abscesses or polymicrobial wound infections.

OSTEOMYELITIS OF THE RIBS AND LONG BONES

Aaspergillosis of ribs and long bones is associated with patients who have the chronic granulomatous disease, immunosuppressed recipients of solid organ transplants, experienced traumatic or surgical infection of affected bones.

INVASIVE ASPERGILLUS MASTOIDITIS

Invasive Aspergillus mastoiditis occurs when there is spread of infection from the middle ear into the mastoid process, petrous and temporal bones.
