Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic and complex condition where recurrent discomfort or pain in the bladder or area surrounding pelvic region may occur and one feels the need to urinate repeatedly and urgently. Ayurvedic Point in Causes of Interstitial Cystitis

Vitiated Apaan vata is responsible for Interstitial Cystitis in Ayurveda .According to Ayurveda the cause for interstitial cystitis (IC) may be due to intensification of vata and pitta dosha where Vata is actually cold, dry, gentle, and mild. Ayurveda has explained that Vata controls all the movements of body and brain in which, Apana vata is found in the lower pelvic area, and aids in proper filtration and excretion of menstruation, urine, stool. Other is pitta, it signifies heat. Irritated pitta dosha is responsible for burning sensation.

Aggravated Pitta and vata produce specific toxic elements which get collected in anal area, kidney, urethra and the pelvic area. Deposits of toxic elements generate pain, frequent urination and a burning sensation in urine.
